Highlights for the season 2020/2021 for Romanian Bass Leonard Bernad include his return to Theater Klagenfurt singing the role of Don Basilio in a new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia. At the Operá de Versailles he is scheduled to sing the role of Masetto and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni with Les Musiciens du Louvre and conductor Marc Minkowski, roles he will perform further ahead at the Liceu in Barcelona and the Operá National de Bordeaux,

 

Leonard  recently sang the role of Melisso in Alcina at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy with with Leonardo Garcia Alarcón conducting and the role of Biterolf in Tannhäuser at Stadttheater Klagenfurt.

 

He made his role-debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni at Theater Bonn where he was a member of ensemble  and sang roles such as Ariodate in Händel’s Serse, Alvise Badoero in La Gioconda, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zuniga in Carmen, Jacopo Loredano in I due Foscari, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, Swallow in Peter Grimes, Leone in Attila and Timor in Turandot

  

As a member of the Opera Vlaanderen ensemble, Leonard’s engagements included roles such as Biterolf in Tannhäuser, Idraote/Astarotte in Rossini’s Armida, Pharnaces in Der König Kandaules, Colline in La bohème, Lodovico in Otello, La Voce di Nettuno in Idomeneo and Joe in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny.

 

Other past engagements included Marchese in Mirandolina at the Bayerische Staatsoper, as well as Stimme dere Wächter der Stadt in Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Munich Opera Festival. He sang Il Vecchio Zingaro in Il trovatore and Il Capo de la Guardia in Cherubini’s Medea, both productions conducted by Zubin Mehta and screened at the 2012 Festival del Mediterrani. 

 

Leonard appeared alongside Edita Gruberova in Bellini’s La straniera at the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, and he sang the same part at the Wiener Musikverein in celebration of Edita Gruberova’s 45th Stage Anniversary concert.

 

Under the musical direction of Plácido Domingo he sang the role of the Commissario di Polizia in Menotti’s Amelia Al Ballo and other conductors he had the pleasure of working with include Alberto Zedda, Antonino Fogliani, Dmitri Jurowski, Alexander Joel and Paul McCreesh.
