Highlights for the season 2020/2021 for Bolivian Bass José Coca Loza will include the roles of Masetto and Il Commendatore in a concert version of Don Giovanni at the “Mozart Woche" in Salzburg with András Schiff conducting and the bass part in Händel/Mozart Der Messias at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in a production he already did sing before at the Mozart Woche in Salzburg staged by Robert Wilson and with Marc Minkowski conducting Les Musiciens du Louvre.

At the Festspielhaus Baden Baden he is scheduled to sing the role of Alidoro in La Cenerentola alongside Cecilia Bartoli and with Les Musiciens du Prince conducted by Gianluca Gapuano. 

He will join Cecilia Bartoli for her European Concert Tour visiting cities such as Amsterdam, Vienna, Hamburg, Köln, Monte Carlo, Munich, Graz and Paris and will sing a solo concert together with the Venice Baroque Orchestra and Andrea Marcon at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. With the Radio Orchestra in Madrid he is scheduled to sing Stravinsky’s Pulcinella.

 

José made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London in the role of Lesbo in Agrippina staged by Barry Kosky and conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev and other recent engagements include the role of Astolfo in Orlando Furioso at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow with George PePetrou conducting, the role Mustafa in L'italiana in Algeri under the baton of Giancarlo Andretta in Granada, Haly in L'italiana in Algeri at the Salzburger Osterfestspiele and at the Opéra Royal de Versailles with Ensemble Mattheaus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi conducting, Alidoro in La Cenerentola with Cecilia Bartoli at the Lucerne Festival and visiting venues such as the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona and Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the role of Clistene in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade with Andrea Marcon conducting La Cetra Barockorchester at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Festival de Música de Canarias in Tenerife and Las Palmas. On the concert platform he sang the Mozart Requiem with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

After completing his studies at the conservatory in Basel, José joined the Opera Studio at the theatre in Basel where he sang roles such as Melisso in Alcina, Alte Diener in Elektra and Marchese d'Obigny in La Traviata. Since 2014 he is coached by Silvana Bazzoni.
