Highlights for the season 2019/2020 for Armenian baritone Gurgen Baveyan include the title role in Kirill Serebrennikov’s production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Theater Basel, a role he is also scheduled to sing at the Komische Oper Berlin and already did sing before at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona and Teatro Verdi in Sassari.

 

Recent engagements include the role of Don Alvaro Il viaggio a Reims at both Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and the role of Schaunard in La bohème at Stadttheater Klagenfurt. At the Concertgebouw Amsterdam he sang Michelotto Cibo in a concert version of Die Gezeichneten with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

In 2016 he finished the studio at Oper Frankfurt where he recently did sing the role of Il Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Marullo in Rigoletto, Giorgio in La gazza ladra and Pélégrin in Der Graf von Luxemburg. Other past engagements include Schaunard in La Bohéme with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Marcello in short version of La bohème with the Nederlandse Reisopera.

 

Gurgen regularly returns to the Armenian National Opera in roles such as Ping in Turandot, Moralès in Carmen, Belcore in L'elisir d’amore, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and Silvio in Pagliacci.

 

Conductors he has worked with include David Parry ,Lorenzo Viotti, Sebastian Weigle, Hartmut Keil, Eduard Topchyan, Eun Sun Kim, Pier Giorgio Morandi and Giacomo Sagripanti.

Gurgen Baveyan studied at the Komitas State conservatory in Yerevan and Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.
