Recent engagements for Italian “Basso Buffo” Donato di Stefano include Signor Geronimo in Il Matrimonio Segreto at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik and Opéra national de Lorraine, Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro at Oper Köln, Don Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Bergen International Festival, Oper Leipzig and Dallas Opera, Il Sagrestano in Tosca at the Canadian Opera Company, Mustafa in L'italiana in Algeri at the Opéra Grand Avignon and Opéra de Massy and the roles of Benoît/Alcindoro in La bohème at the Washington National Opera.

 

Future highlights will include his return to the Staatsoper Berlin as Don Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Maestro Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Signor Geronimo in Il Matrimonio Segreto at Oper Köln and Benoît/Alcindoro in La bohème at the Canadian Opera Company.

Other roles on his expansive repertoire include the title role in Gianni Schicchi (Opera di Firenze, Oper Frankfurt), title role in Falstaff (Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival, Japan), Dulcamare in L’ Elisir d’Amore (Savonlinna Opera Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Scottish Opera), Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola (Teatro Real Madrid, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Opéra National de Lorraine), Fra Melitone in La Forza del Destino (Oper Frankfurt), Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia (Teatro alla Scala di Milano), Uberto in La Serva Padrona (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie) and Simone in Gianni Schicchi (Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris).

 

Donato DiStefano has worked with conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Alessandro De Marchi, Sascha Goetzel, Bruno Campanella, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Sigiswald Kuijken and Giuliano Carella.
